Reading 12 : 'I Have Clothes' Song

Skill : Reading
Year : 2
Topic : Get Dressed

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

So, yeah, I've got another song to share to all of you. Actually, I've already shared it during the SELTS event last two weeks, but I just remembered that I haven't shared it with you guys. This lesson only required the teacher to demo and sing the 'I Have Clothes' song using the 'Uptown Girls' tune by Westlife. This song suddenly came up to me right after I woke up on the day this lesson was suppose to be conducted. Yeah, its just happened. Haha

For those who did not know the Uptown Girls by Westlife, check out the link below :

As an exercise for this lesson, I asked the pupils to read the lyrics. Then, they need to categorise the clothes with its materials correctly. Since the lyrics looked pretty long, I asked them to make it as a homework. Worry not as I've uploaded the worksheet and the lyrics as in the word file below :

Thanks for reading, people! :)

LA 22 : Numbers Song!

Lesson : Language Arts
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

I realised that my pupils have another problem in spelling the words of the numbers. They can say out the numbers but then they can't spell any of it. The lyric of the song is as follow :

O.N.E - One
T.W.O - Two
T.H.R.E.E - Three~

F.O.U.R - Four
F.I.V.E - Five
S.I.X - Six
S.E.V.E.N - Seven

E.I.G.H.T - Eight
N.I.N.E - Nine
T.E.N - Ten
All done!

Thus, I came up with a simple song with the tune of Photograph by Ed Sheeran. I played my guitar with chords like these :

Capo at 4th fret.

First verse :
C,
Am,
G, F

Second verse :
C,
Am,
G, F

Third verse :
Am, F,
C, G
Am, F
C, G.

I provided the video for you guys to see on how it sounds like.

P/s : Pardon me for the ending, the kids were just too excited! Thanks for reading! :)

Writing 13 : Days of the Week Song

Lesson : Writing / Reading / Language Arts
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and hi everybody!

So, I've realised that this new textbook (Superminds) did not focus on the spelling of the days of the week at all. Though they provided the audio and video for that specific topic (Free Time), but still, they focus only on the activities. I believed that my pupils also faced the problems of memorising the spelling of days of the week. Thus, I came up with a song, with simple tune which I can play using my guitar. This is because the karaoke version might be quite fast for them to catch the beat. Plus, they are not familiar enough with this song.

The song that I have chosen this time entitled Menang by Faizal Tahir. I only took the final verse which the lyric of the original song is as below. Plus, finding the easiest guitar chords to be played will be the utmost advantage for a beginner like me.

From the lyric above, I changed it to simple ones which focused on the spellings. Just like what I did for my past lesson (about Months of the Year song). The lyric is as below :

M.O.N.D.A.Y - Monday
T.U.E.S.D.A.Y - Tuesday
W.E.D.N.E.S.D.A.Y - Wednesday
T.H.U.R.S.D.A.Y - Thursday
F.R.I.D.A.Y - Friday
S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y - Saturday
S.U.N.D.A.Y - Sunday

For better overview of this lesson, you can check out a video that I've recorded in one of my classes today. They might sang it out of tune a bit but then at least you can see how the lyric being sang.

After we sang couple of times, I gave them a simple writing activity related to the topic we have learnt today which is jumble letters. Pupils only need to rearrange the letters to form correct days of the week.

That's all for today! Thanks for reading! :)

Reading 9 : Months of the Year (Song) - Year 1

Hello there!

After the final exam, I realised that I faced a major problem in dealing with my pupils' weaknesses regarding spelling of the months of the year in English. I tried drilling, memorising and spelling test, none of it works well especially for the weaker pupils. So, I decided to come up with a song, which eventually matched with their styles of learning.

This lesson was conducted at the end of the year after the exam since we got plenty of time to waste. Hahaha. First, I distributed the lyrics and we read it together to ensure they got correct pronunciation. This drilling sessions went on and on for two days, without music, just plain reading on the first day, and slowly introduced them with the melody on the second day. So, on the third day, I brought my guitar and we started sing to the song with the melodies learnt.

I started sing with them line by line and repeat with verse by verse. After they managed to do it well, I continued with singing the entire song. The lyric is provided down here.

Now, let's take a look at the video below :

L & S 9 : Colour Song!

Lesson : Listening and Speaking / Language Arts
Year : 1

For this lesson, I conducted a singing lesson (based on the textbook, page 57). So, basically, I prepared simple props to let the students respond with the song that they sing. I use the I Love You Barney song since I found that the tune given in the textbook (This Old Man song) is a little bit fast for the students to catch up. The lyric of the song is as follows :

Title : Colour Song (use the tune of I Love You Barney Song)

I like red,
I like red,
I like a red bow on my suit,
I like a red bug, red mug, red bed too,
I like red and what about you?

I like yellow,
I like yellow,
I like a yellow bow on my suit,
I like a yellow bug, yellow mug, yellow bed too,
I like yellow and what about you?

*since its the colour song, simply change the colour of the items to red, yellow, green and blue. I use these colours because I prepared the props in these colours. So, be flexible to make your props even better!

For that, the photo of the props is as follows :

I simply printed these photos on colour papers (save ink, save budget) and then laminated them to ensure the durability. The size of the photos are basically big enough for the students to see it (around A5 size).

As usual, I provided the materials to be downloaded for this activity :

By the way, you can adapt this activity to be used in Language Arts too!

Grammar 2 : Reflexive Pronouns Song

Lesson : Grammar
Year : 5

For reflexive pronouns, I also created a song based on the tune of "Do A Deer" song. FYI, I managed to find this instrumental version of this song. So, if you don't like it, maybe you can find another good instrumental version of this song to sing it with your students. :)

Since I did not printed it in poster size before, I only gave each of my students the lyrics to be pasted in their exercise book. Reflexive pronouns consists of changes from pronouns to reflexive ones (she turns into herself). The lyric is as follows :

Come on let’s learn,
Reflexive Pronouns,
Shows the person who acts.

I the name become myself,
You now turn into yourself,

He now turns into himself,
She now turns into herself,
It now turn into itself,
That’s just some of it to know oh oh.

Come on, let’s learn,
Reflexive Pronouns,
Shows the person who acts.

Now let’s learn a little bit more,
Let’s see how all these will change.

We, we changed into ourselves,
You, we changed into yourselves,
They, we changed into themselves,

That’s all that we need to know oh oh oh.

As usual, the soft copy is uploaded below together with further activities :

Grammar 1 : Pronouns Song

Lesson : Grammar
Year : 3

Grammar is one of the hardest part to be teach, to be explain and to be understand. So, I think, by using songs, I could help the students to at least remember them properly.

Thus, I created this song entitled Pronouns Song. I used this for my Year 3 students last year when I was in my practicum 3. The sample of lyric is as follow :

The tune of this song is the famous BINGO song. Just check on YouTube and you'll know how to sing it! I've prepared the lyrics which is as follows :

Further activity for this lesson (jumble words) also being uploaded here :

Phonic 2 : Phonemes 'oy' and 'ir' Song

Today, I've created a song to teach phonemes 'oy' and 'ir' for my Year 2 students. I love using songs because it helped me to remember it better. Well, I hope the same thing happened to my students. ^^

So.. this is the lyric of the song.

For this song, I used the intro of One Thing song by One Direction (you can check out the song in YouTube or etc). Just used the intro tune, okay? Or you can change it using any suitable tunes that you like. ^^ From the feedback of this lesson, the students were able to sing very well. I'm going to try to check their memory regarding this phonemes from time to time soon.

Enjoy! :)
