LA 22 : Numbers Song!

Lesson : Language Arts
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

I realised that my pupils have another problem in spelling the words of the numbers. They can say out the numbers but then they can't spell any of it. The lyric of the song is as follow :

O.N.E - One
T.W.O - Two
T.H.R.E.E - Three~

F.O.U.R - Four
F.I.V.E - Five
S.I.X - Six
S.E.V.E.N - Seven

E.I.G.H.T - Eight
N.I.N.E - Nine
T.E.N - Ten
All done!

Thus, I came up with a simple song with the tune of Photograph by Ed Sheeran. I played my guitar with chords like these :

Capo at 4th fret.

First verse :
C,
Am,
G, F

Second verse :
C,
Am,
G, F

Third verse :
Am, F,
C, G
Am, F
C, G.

I provided the video for you guys to see on how it sounds like.

P/s : Pardon me for the ending, the kids were just too excited! Thanks for reading! :)

L & S 15 : Do You Do You?

Lesson : Listening and Speaking + Writing
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

I would like to share one of my recent lessons that worked well to help my pupils remember the sounds of these sentences.

Do you like ________________?

Yes, I do.                          No, I don't.

So, initially, I did this lesson by drilling but it didn't turn out that well. Then, alhamdulillah, for the next lesson (recently), I suddenly got the idea to make it fun which is by 'playing bomb' with other groups. In Malay, we tend to play this game of "Goreng Pisang, Goreng Pisang, Goreng Pisang sekarang, Pisang apa, Pisang apa, Pisang apa sekarang?" This gave me the idea to teach them saying the sentences with some proper actions just as in the video below :

After that, I assigned each group to pick an object such as ball and write it on a given paper. Then, they need to be prepared to 'bomb' other group that I pointed at. They also need to answer with Yes, I do or No, I don't. This step was repeated until all groups were done. Then, they need to copy the given sentences that they learnt and changed the blank space given with their own words.

That's all! Thanks for reading! :)

LA 21 : The Very Hungry Caterpillar Mini Book

Lesson : Language Arts + Listening + Writing + Reading
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

Yesterday, we did a mini book based on the animated story entitled "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". I started my lesson by introducing the vocabulary related to the story (hungry, watermelon, caterpillar). Then, I asked them to watch the animated story that I played from YouTube.

Click HERE to watch the video.

There are several of them but I think this is the best one which helped in my upcoming continuous lesson.

For this lesson, I did not provide any samples since I want them to think on how to decorate it on their own instead of following mine. I showed them the video, and then tried to recap the contents from it. This was done several times (played the video, asked, played the video and again asked).

After that, I write such related information on the whiteboard as follows (pardon me for my handwriting):

After that, I distributed the mini book template (as below) :

Then, pupils need to fill in the information given into the mini book and decorate it. This lesson was conducted for two days due to the lack of time. So, on the second day we just continue to decorate it and pasted it in their exercise book.

I got some cute and very adorable works by my students, which I never expected my Year 2 students would come up with something like these. I got like almost 100 students (for three classes and only few came up with such beautiful artworks.

Overall, it was pretty tough to handle them because they really need further explanation since I did not provide the pictures and everything. I just wanted to help them to think more and remember more from the video shown. They really felt lost when they watch the video since there is no subtitles and they need to listen and watch well. Luckily, all went well, Alhamdulillah!

By the way, you can simply download the template by right-clicking the picture given at the top of this post. Keep going and teach, everybody! :)

Thanks for reading!
