LA 19 : Surprising Magic Book

Year : 1 - 6
Lesson : Language Arts / Writing

Hello there!

So, this week, we've been through a three-day course related to the Curriculum Induction for the CEFR. One of the things that we have learnt that attracted me the most was a session of making the magic book. During the IPG life, we have attended a course which also taught us on how to make a magic book (which I was really excited that time), but this version of magic book is waaaayyy too awesome and pretty tricky!

You can check the link for the normal magic book that we always heard HERE

So, the pictures below are the samples of magic books that our group made during the course. Normally, this can be done for riddles or any quizzes with plenty of clues. The inside part is hidden and can be shown by opening the outside (clues part). See for more information at the end of this post.

This is a pretty simple thing to make and quite surprising too!. Check out for further tutorial here, since I did not have any videos while making one during the course.

LA 18 : 3D Foldable Crafts (Vehicles, Buildings, Animals, Toys)

Year : 1 - 6 (based on the suitability of the crafts)
Lesson : Language Arts

Hello there!

Well, today I would like to share a new craft that I bought at a DIY store. Sorry, but I can't remember the exact price of it. Just check it out at the store. It is a 16 scissors-less craft because it was supposed to be directly done from the given template. But, to provide each for the pupil, I have scanned it, edit it into black and white template so that they can colour it according to their preferences. So, here's what it looks like :

The original one is pretty thick and we just need directly take it out from the cut outs and assemble it. So, I have conducted this class with my Year 3 pupils as a freedom day of the week. My sample of the paper 3D foldable craft looked like this :

Double Decker Bus

As usual, I've prepared the edited (black and white) template for you to print it out and carry out in your lesson. Here's the link :

P/s : I used this as a reward for those who completed their works properly throughout the week. It works well! Thanks for reading! :)

LA 10 : Waving Hand

Lesson : Language Arts
Year : 4

For this activity, I randomly named it as Waving Hand because I don't know what kind of art is this. Haha. But still, my students did way better than mine, as always. This lesson is also for an adapted poem into a song using the Are You Sleeping tune. Check out the details below.

My simple sample of Waving Hand

Make a simple curve with hole to put your hand in, so that you can wave it!

Just like this! ^^

What do you need?
Drawing block papers (A4 sizes), scissors, colour pencils

How to Do it?
  1. Put your hand on the paper and trace the shape of your entire palm.
  2. Cut the traced drawing and decorate them using your own creativity.
  3. Draw a curve at the end of your traced palm and cut it properly. Fyi, I cut all curves of my students' works for safety purposes.
  4. Ask them to colour and decorate it using their own creativity.

Like previously, this text can be found in the Anthology of Poems for Year 4, 5 and 6 book

I used the above text and adapted it into a song using Are You Sleeping song. Just repeat the verses to fit the tune properly, or you can also use other tune to fit with the lyric. I provided you with some photos of my students while doing this activity. :)

This kid (above) came up with a Naruto design Waving Hand. Way too cool!

Thanks for reading! :)

LA 9 : DIY Woodpecker Mask

Lesson : Language Arts
Year : 4

This lesson was conducted during my second phase of practicum. Instead of teaching my students on how to recite the poem given, I adapted it to become a song. So, the students could practice and performed with the woodpecker masks they have created.

Sample of Woodpecker Mask

The above text can be found from the Anthology of Poems for Year 4, 5 and 6 book (below)

How to Make A Woodpecker Mask?

What do you need?
Thick paper (I used black paper for the eye mask and yellow paper for the beak), cellophane tape, string.

How to Do it?
  1. Print the template given above on a white paper..
  2. Trace the template on black paper (if you use black paper). If you used other colours, you may just print it out. Do the same thing for the beak.
  3. Fold the dashed line on the beak, and make sure it turned out to fit the eye mask.
  4. Place the beak in the middle of the eye mask and tape it.
  5. Punch holes on the left and the right side of the mask, then tie strings into both of the holes.
  6. Tadaa! Done! You can just do it in your own way if you think my way is way to hard to be followed. :D

Using this poem, I adapted it into a song based on the Baa Baa Black Sheep tune. Just simply find the instrumental on YouTube to conduct this lesson in your class.

LA 8 : DIY Finger Puppets

Lesson : Language Arts
Year : All levels

These teaching aids are called as DIY Finger Puppets because I bought it at DIY store. I accidentally found these finger puppets which are very durable and easy to make. One set of it consists of four finger puppets. So far, I only managed to found this set, there could be more sets in other stores which I have not discover yet.

These finger puppets are sold at DIY store (if you are a fan of this kind of store, then you'll know it), just walked around the stationary areas and you might found other types of finger puppets instead of the animal ones.

I don't remember how much it costs, but it could be less than rm10 (around rm5 if I'm not mistaken). Tried to make it and I love to use it for my lessons someday! :)

Writing 4 : Poster Template (Superheroes)

Lesson : Writing
Year : 4, 5 and 6

To further complete writing activity, I tend to add more activities. So, this time, I've prepared a poster template activity which involved superheroes. I asked the students to choose a superhero to be pasted on the poster. Then, I provided them with the templates and they started doing it in groups. I have the sample with me below, and I also provided some photos of my students while completing this activity.

My students' works :

As usual, I've uploaded the templates and script below :

Writing 3 : Mini Booklet

Lesson : Writing
Year : 4, 5 and 6

Based on the story The Bully, I've prepared an activity of writing a mini booklet for my students. The students only need to complete the story based on the words given. I have prepared a sample but I misplaced it this time. So, I just prepared the story and the template of mini booklet in the link below :

Reading 2 : The Bully

Lesson : Reading

In this lesson, I've prepared the big book The Bully. Then, to continue with the worksheets, I've prepared a word search for post reading and also comprehension questions for the while reading stage.

The worksheets are uploaded in a file below :

L & S 3 : Bingo Games

Lesson : Listening and Speaking
Year : 5

In this lesson, I've prepared an activity named as Bingo Games to enhance listening and speaking skills of my students based on the listening text given (refer to the text). I misplaced the audio, so you should record the story by yourself to make it as a listening text.

The game is simple. The teacher just say out the words to the students, and they circle or cross the word until they find a winner. Make sure to let the students know how to say out the words properly to ensure they will cross the correct words.

I've uploaded the worksheet below based on the story :

Big Book 2 : The Bully

Lesson : Listening and Speaking or Reading
Year : 3 to 6

This was my first big book that I have created. I downloaded the story from the internet and simply printed it on drawing block papers (A3 which being divided into A4). So, the sample of that big book is as follows :

I've uploaded the story book below for further references:

LA 1 : Polyhedra Arts

Lesson : Language Arts
Year : Year 1 - 6

So, basically, I love this art the most out of all handmade stuff that I did. Well, it simply because these polyhedra arts are amazing! For sure, we need to help them to cut the polyhedra arts since they might cut it wrongly. To make it simple, use colour papers so that the students could only decorate it without the need to colour the entire thing. Plus, making this took a lot of time too. Anyway, I found this on the internet and decided to try it out with my Year 4 students during my practicum. As a result, they did way better than mine!

The ones that I made

The rest of the photos below are arts made by my students :

As usual, I've uploaded the file for these polyhedra arts :
