L & S 19 : Can You...?

Skill : Listening and Speaking
Topic : The Robot
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

This lesson was a bit late to be posted because I was pretty busy with weekend holidays. haha! So yeah, let's get back on track.

In this lesson, I asked the pupils to be in pairs. Then, they were given a list of abilities. They need to ask their pairs about the abilities. If they can do it, they need to tick (/) Yes and vice versa. Simple but fun enough as I was able to see them ask their friends to truly do the actions.

As you can see above, it was as simple as this. Basically, all pupils were able to do this activity and speak in English. They were aware of the abilities and they know what are the actions. I've uploaded the files for this activity below :

Thank you for keep on reading my blog and supporting me. Its the 100th post!
Thanks for reading! :)

Reading 14 : Look, Read and Rearrange

Skill : Reading
Topic : The Robot
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

This was a pretty simple lesson to be done with your kids who did not love to read much. Prepare a simple worksheet that makes them read and rearrange the storyline based on the actual story. Refer to the story in Superminds textbook (page 98). So, the worksheet will be something just like this :

Pupils need to colour each line. Cut. Look, read and rearrange it. Then, paste it on the box given below. They definitely able to do it well since the story itself acted as a guide.

As usual, to make it easier for you, I've uploaded the Word and Pdf version of this worksheet.

That's all. Thanks for reading! :)

LA 28 : Walking Paper Robots

Skill : Language Arts, Listening (Following instructions)
Year : 2
Topic : The Robot

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

Today, the start of a new day right after a week of school holidays. Happened to be that today's lesson is related to Language Arts. So, I have decided to teach my pupils on how to make A Walking Paper Robot. Actually, I found this craft on You Tube as I really in love with crafts, and I sometimes wish that I could teach Arts instead of English Language. Haha! Well, click the link below for the video tutorial.

To make this, all you need are :
  • A4 colour paper.
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Colour pencils

That's it. Dear teachers, you should just ask from your Head of Panel for these materials so that it would not burden you to spend you own money. I did that and I am very pleased to continue this lesson with a happy heart. So, here's my sample :

As you've watched the video tutorial, you might realised that to make it walk, you need to have two sticks (or chopsticks). But, as I have lots of pupils to cater, I only make their robots walk using their own fingers. Some of them pasted their own pencils and colour pencils too. Well, its on their own creativity. What matters that all of us happy. So, let's take a look of my pupils's works today!

Thanks for reading! Have fun with your kids! :)

Reading 13 : Teapot-Shaped Read and Write

Skill : Reading, Writing
Year : 2
Topic : The Robot

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

In this lesson, I exposed them to a robot cartoon which one of my favourite back then when I was a kid. Its called as Rolie Polie Olie! I bet you remembered them! Yeah, its about a robot family who lived in a teapot-shaped house. Just search in the Youtube the keyword of Rolie Polie Olie and you'll smiled as you showed it to your pupils. I did! Coz I just missed of being a child though I don't understand a thing back then about this cartoon at all. Ok, enough with that. Let's proceed.

So, what I did was, I provided them with a simple text. We read together. Then, we watch a video of Rolie Polie Olie cartoon. After that, we referred back to the text and separate information needed to be filled in the teapot-shaped worksheet. I did not be able to provide them with a proper worksheet for this lesson, so I asked them to draw the teapot-shaped in their exercise books. Then, they read the text and just simply fill in the information needed.

I also provided them with the poster of this cartoon for them to colour which is as below :

Fret not, by the time I write this post, I managed to come up with a proper version of this worksheet which being uploaded as follows :

We had fun for this lesson since the pupils were pretty excited to know the existence of such cartoons instead of the typical Boboiboy.

Thanks for reading!

Reading 12 : 'I Have Clothes' Song

Skill : Reading
Year : 2
Topic : Get Dressed

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

So, yeah, I've got another song to share to all of you. Actually, I've already shared it during the SELTS event last two weeks, but I just remembered that I haven't shared it with you guys. This lesson only required the teacher to demo and sing the 'I Have Clothes' song using the 'Uptown Girls' tune by Westlife. This song suddenly came up to me right after I woke up on the day this lesson was suppose to be conducted. Yeah, its just happened. Haha

For those who did not know the Uptown Girls by Westlife, check out the link below :

As an exercise for this lesson, I asked the pupils to read the lyrics. Then, they need to categorise the clothes with its materials correctly. Since the lyrics looked pretty long, I asked them to make it as a homework. Worry not as I've uploaded the worksheet and the lyrics as in the word file below :

Thanks for reading, people! :)

L & S 18 : 'I Can Do' Station Game

Skill : Listening and Speaking
Year : 2
Topic : The Robot

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

I'm pretty excited with this new topic since finally we can move from that previous topic which took about more than a month! Well, my pupils are pretty excited and anticipating more in this new topic. SINCE NONE OF THE KIDS WHO DID NOT LOVE ROBOTS!

Basically, this is the among the earlier lessons about this new topic. You just have to start with the typical Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes song for the warm-up activities. After that, I conducted 'Label Your Robots' activity.

*LABEL YOUR ROBOTS ACTIVITY

You only need sticky notes and prior knowledge about parts of the body. In groups, pupils need to choose a friend who will become their robots. Then, they need to write on the sticky notes the parts of the body that they have learnt (please refer to the Superminds textbook page 94). After that, they need to paste the sticky notes to their robots without referring to their textbooks. Look at the picture below.

* 'I CAN DO' STATION GAME

In this station game, I started by recalling the action song that we've learnt. I got this song from the symposium the other day, where a teacher shared his project with the tourists at their school. The song entitled "PARTS OF THE BODY" has really helped me in developing more knowledge about body parts towards my pupils. After that, I distributed a worksheet related to 'I Can Do' abilities. Pupils have already done some warm up about this in the previous lesson. So, this activity is more to make pupils more exposed to some other abilities that they realised either they can do it or not.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

  • 'I Can Do' Cards worksheet template (refer to the link below)
  • Picture sentences of activities (refer to the link below)
  • Stickers (or stamps)
HOW TO PLAY?
  1. Teacher distributes the worksheet.
  2. Teacher explains the actions in each station.
  3. Teacher's helpers stand at each station and give away the stickers if their friends able to do the abilities showed.
  4. Teachers checked their stickers.
At the end of the game, the teacher's helpers will be judged by their friends to get the stickers. You'll know which any of your pupils who were able to do that particular ability or not through this game. Like mine, two of my pupils were able to touch their nose with the tip of their tongue! Well, let's take a look of these pictures of the activity.

As usual, I've uploaded the worksheet and picture sentences as below :
