L & S 11 : DIY Microphones

Skill : Listening and Speaking
Year : 3
Topic : People Around Me

Okay, I'm back! So, yesterday's lesson, I made a teaching aid that definitely will encourage my students to speak in English. Yes, it works! So, here is the tutorial on how to make the microphones!

Sample of DIY Microphones

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you need?

  • Empty tissue rolls
  • Styrofoam balls (the best thing to use but I don't have any so I used table tennis balls)
  • Used papers
  • Any colour papers (I used origami flowery papers)
  • Black colour origami paper
  • Aluminium foil
  • Decorative tape (bought at Kaison)
  • Double Tape
  • Cellophane Tape
  • Scissors
How to do it?

The body of the mic :

  1. Cut the empty tissue rolls to the length of the microphones that you want.
  2. Wrap it using any colour papers (I used flowery origami papers). Use cellophane tape around the whole 'mic' to ensure its durability.
  3. Put decorative tape on top and bottom of the mic (optional).
The head of the mic :

  1. Wrap the table tennis ball with two layers (or more) of the used papers. It will be better to used a styrofoam ball since its shape is perfect for this.
  2. Then, wrap it once again with aluminium foil and shape it properly like the picture above.
Combine them!
  1. Simply tape the head of the mic and the body with cellophane tape, or you can also use hot glue gun to make sure the head of the mic did not fall off easily.

Tadaaa! Done! May this tutorial helps you to make even a better version of microphones. I'm not that good with decoration and creativity but I tried my best. Its fun to see your students enjoyed your lesson with the help of your own teaching aids. Good luck! :)
