Writing 13 : Days of the Week Song

Lesson : Writing / Reading / Language Arts
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and hi everybody!

So, I've realised that this new textbook (Superminds) did not focus on the spelling of the days of the week at all. Though they provided the audio and video for that specific topic (Free Time), but still, they focus only on the activities. I believed that my pupils also faced the problems of memorising the spelling of days of the week. Thus, I came up with a song, with simple tune which I can play using my guitar. This is because the karaoke version might be quite fast for them to catch the beat. Plus, they are not familiar enough with this song.

The song that I have chosen this time entitled Menang by Faizal Tahir. I only took the final verse which the lyric of the original song is as below. Plus, finding the easiest guitar chords to be played will be the utmost advantage for a beginner like me.

From the lyric above, I changed it to simple ones which focused on the spellings. Just like what I did for my past lesson (about Months of the Year song). The lyric is as below :

M.O.N.D.A.Y - Monday
T.U.E.S.D.A.Y - Tuesday
W.E.D.N.E.S.D.A.Y - Wednesday
T.H.U.R.S.D.A.Y - Thursday
F.R.I.D.A.Y - Friday
S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y - Saturday
S.U.N.D.A.Y - Sunday

For better overview of this lesson, you can check out a video that I've recorded in one of my classes today. They might sang it out of tune a bit but then at least you can see how the lyric being sang.

After we sang couple of times, I gave them a simple writing activity related to the topic we have learnt today which is jumble letters. Pupils only need to rearrange the letters to form correct days of the week.

That's all for today! Thanks for reading! :)

Phonic 13 : Phonemes (wh, ph, ew, oe, au)

Lesson 7 : Listening and Reading
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum people!

Another worksheet created for Lesson 7 and 8 under Phonic lessons (Week 2). So, worksheet for Lesson 7 is as below :

It is a hidden pictures worksheet. The pupils are introduced with the phonemes with more drilling. Then, the teacher distributes the worksheet and give proper instructions. Since the pupils already know the words and spellings, teacher needs to say it out and asked the pupils to identify which word that being said and colour it. Teacher could strictly decide the colour for each picture or let the pupils coloured it freely. Click the link below to download :

This lesson integrated reading and writing skills. Teacher explains the activity by telling pupils to identify the words related to the learnt phonemes in each sentence. Underline them and rewrite to complete the crossword puzzle template. To make it fun, ask the pupils to use colours, and do it in pairs or groups. Click the link below to download this worksheet :

Phonic 12 : Phonemes (oy, ir, ue, aw) - Reading and Writing

Lesson 6 : Reading and Writing
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum people!

Here's a worksheet that I've prepared for tomorrow's lesson. This worksheet integrated reading and writing of all four phonemes learnt from Lesson 5. In the first part of it which focused on reading, pupils need to read and identify the words with the correct phonemes. Then, they need to colour it according to the clues given with guidance. The second part of it is for writing lesson where pupils need to rewrite the words according to the phonemes families (columns) correctly.

You can choose to distribute it individually or pairs or groups. Its up to you. Click the icon below to download :

Phonic 11 : Phonemes (oy, ir, ue, aw) - Listening and Reading Year 2 CEFR

Lesson 5 : Listening and Reading (New Syllabus)
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum people!

I've spent my weekends doing these one week worksheets for phonic lessons since I can't cope well with writing on the whiteboard thrice for three classes that I have per day. So, I create simple worksheets for the pupils so that they have fun in learning phonics. Besides, I used related gestures which allowed them to remember more on the sounds of the phonemes as shown in the video below. This video was taken last week for our first, second, third and forth phonic lessons (8 phonemes : ear, air, ure, er, ay, ou, ie, ea).

For today's lesson, I made this simple worksheet which involved listening and reading. The pupils need to identify correct pictures to be matched with the correct words. The teacher could simply give instructions to start with any words so that the pupils will listen and read the words while finding the correct pictures.

As usual, you can download this worksheet by clicking any of the icons below :
