LA 25 : Colour Using the Writings

Skill : Language Arts / Writing
Year : 2
Lesson : At The House (Superminds)

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

Here's another Language Arts activity inspired by the Art Attack show! I've grown up with this show and I loved it how Neil Buchanan could be such a creative guy with some unthinkable arts! Well, its a pretty simple activity for the pupils to complete. All you need are picture cards and colours. Explaining to them was pretty hard since they thought colouring was just merely colour. So, take a good time and give them proper example okay?

Firstly, pupils were given a chance to draw lots one picture cards (using the picture cards below).

Then, they need to draw it and colour it using the given sentences. Confused? Look at the picture (my sample) below as your guidance.

There, sentences were given. They need to fill in the blanks first with the cards they've got. Then, fill in their drawings with the sentences. Look at their works below!

These are among the best outcomes. Kudos kids! *I've corrected all the misspellings

That's all. Thanks for reading!

Reading 11 : Read and Memorise

Skill : Reading / Writing
Year : 2
Lesson : At the House (Superminds)

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

I'd like to share another simple activity that we've done this week. Its a very simple reading activity, where all you need is picture cards. This picture cards below was bought during a book sale (not sure either MPH or Popular sale) somewhere in Peninsular, costed only RM 10.00 after the promotion if I'm not mistaken (OP is RM 20.00). Honestly. I was thinking to buy it for my youngest cousin but yeah, I decided just to keep it in case it will be used in my lessons. By that time, Superminds was not even introduced yet. So, yeah, finally it's being used. At the back of the picture cards, there some questions related to the picture cards such as "What is the colour of the couch?" and so on.

After that, we read the picture cards together, and I keep flashing these cards to the pupils several times. We played sight reading game where I hurriedly flash the cards and they need to read it quickly. Then, I started to tell them what are we going to do. Pupils need to recall and draw three pictures that they could remember from the input given previously. That's all. For pupils with low and intermediate level of language proficiency, you can asked them to draw one or two pictures only. Its up to you, teachers!

So, here's some of the outcomes of the lesson :

No worries, I've corrected the misspellings, okay? :)

Since the pupils are getting pretty 'lost' after a long holiday (due to the GE14), I just prepared simple activity like this. Just to add more simple input to them. Plus, I need more spirits in dealing when a new day of working after that long holidays!

That's all. Thanks for reading!

L & S 16 : My Monster!

Skill : Listening and Speaking
Topic : The Old House (Shapes)
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

I would like to share the activity that I did with my kids on our lesson recently (few days before everyone went back for General Election 14 on the 9th May 2018). This activity is named as My Monster! Why? Simply because they need to draw their monster based on the instructions that I've told them. Let's check it out!

Firstly, I taught them some basic shapes such as circle (round), square and triangle. I also taught simple adjectives such as tall, short, small and big. Something like this one below :

As you can see, I drew an example of monster so that they know what they were about to do later on. Then, I started gave simple instructions. I started with the face of the monster. Let's say something like this :

"The monster has a big round face." (So, the pupils need to draw a big circle on their book)
"For the eyes. It has two eyes. One eye is a big triangle, the other one is a small square."
"For the teeth. It has six teeth. Starting with a triangle, square, circle, triangle, square, circle."
"Its nose has a small triangle shape."
"It has two ears. One is big. the other one is small."

And that's are some of the examples that I did. I can't recall since I taught three classes and I did three different kinds of monsters. Hahaha! Well, this lesson is definitely a bilingual one since I need to translate a bit when the pupils seemed a bit confused.

Anyway, I only asked them to complete the face part. The other parts of the body were completed by the pupils based on their own preferences. After that, I asked them to name their monster and think about the power that it has. At the end of the lesson, the pupils shared their monsters with the class. That's all! We had fun and my pupils enjoyed the lesson as they kept on laughing at their friends' monsters as well their own.

Check out their drawings below!

Yeah, we had fun in this lesson. Syukur alhamdulillah the LINUS thing is over and I can finally teach them whatever that I want to. Among the answers that I got from my pupils about their monsters' powers were :

"Boleh lempar bom"
"Boleh panjang tangan"
"Boleh panjat bangunan"
"Boleh panjat pokok"
"Can cook"
"Like Boboiboy"
"Can run"
"Boleh terbang"

and the list continue.... I'm glad that they were thinking outside their boxes which I was pretty amazed on that. Most of them have very low self-esteem and confidence to stand in front of their peers but I did my best to help them to at least showed how their monsters looked like. Yeah, everyone was laughing at their own monsters. Haha! What a day!

Thanks for reading! :)
