LA 24 : Animals Around The World!

Lesson : Language Arts
Topic : Habitats (Superminds Textbook)
Year : 2

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

I was pretty excited to share this lesson to all of you since its a new thing for me too! Well, thanks to the new syllabus in Supermind Textbook which included a geography topic about habitats. In this section. habitats that being shown involved animals that the pupils barely knew. So, I took this chance to introduce them to the world!

First, I discussed and talked about the habitats with the pupils. We referred to the content in Supermind Textbook page 78 and 79. I also printed the some pictures of the animals and laminated it, then asked the pupils to paste it on the habitats written correctly. Believe me, the pupils were very excited to see the pictures. I was planning to make it into puzzle form but I knew that I will be run out of time if I did that. So, that's why I did this.

Then, I showed maps of the word which included animals in it. I downloaded these two maps and saved in into pdf form. Print it in poster format (four A4 papers - landscape), laminated it and show it to the pupils. Well, something just like below :

After that, I pasted these two maps on different places around the class. Then, I distributed a world map template (see below) to each pupils. I just printed it in A6 size (One A4 with four pictures of world map) to save the use of papers.

So, I just simply asked them to colour the our country, Malaysia in red in colour. Before that< I explained to them about each continents and where is Malaysia and Semporna located on the world map. I explained the RULES :

1. Look at the maps
2. Choose only two animals that you liked the most among all. They only needed to draw it in that particular country or countries that they have chosen.
3. Colour each continent with any colours that you liked.

And... the activity began with pupils tried their best to draw animals that they liked as well as easy for them to draw on the world map template given. As you can see the pictures below, just see how much they enjoyed it.

He was confused about the location of West Malaysia. But, I've corrected him on that.

He drew a penguin!

I loved it when the pupils asked lots of questions about other countries, which makes me even want to learn more and more. I've provided them with ample information to at least gave them overview about what are there in the other sides of the world. This lesson was truly a new experience for the pupils as well as for me. For that, I even bought plenty of books related to the world such as about animals, the wonders of the world and also about spaces discovery for my next lesson. Let's learn together, kids!

Anyway, thanks for reading! ^^

Reading 10 : Read and Write the Dialogues

Main Skill : Reading
Contemplary Skill : Writing
Year : 2
Source : Supermind Textbook page 74 and 75

This is the worksheet that I've provided for our lesson today. It's merely reading and writing the dialogues based on the story entitled "At The House" in page 74 and 75.

HOW?
- Teacher writes the title of the story "AT THE HOUSE" on the whiteboard.
- Each pupil was given a worksheet.
- They only need to refer to the dialogues and write it on the given worksheet.
- They simply cut and paste it in their exercise books.

*As for the title, I asked them to write and decorate it neatly without giving any proper sample of it. Let's take a look at the lesson today!

The outcomes of today's lesson :

Simple, right? This activity proved that pupils can be so obedient and quite while completing their works (which eventually makes me feel bored haha!) As usual, I've provided the worksheet which I edited it myself. You can print in any size that you want. In my case, I did multiple pages print to fit them in a page.

Anyway, thanks for reading! :)

Tutorial 1 : Synchronised File Covers (Sides and Front)

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

Since somebody asked for the tutorial, I love to share my knowledge in doing these file covers that looked something just like these.

HOW TO DO IT?

1. Google and download any backgrounds that you need. Just type keywords like abstract vector desktop background. Make sure to find pictures with bigger resolutions (e.g : 1200 x 800 onwards) to avoid the background looked not pretty and clear enough.

2. Launch Microsoft Publisher (any version). Then, start making boxes with the exact measurement of your files. Click shapes and choose rectangle. For 40 mm file size, set the height of the boxes is 29.3 cm, width is 4 cm.  The height of A4 size is 29.7 cm, but for printing purposes, to get complete boxes from top to bottom, its a need to reduce a bit to 29.3 cm. Copy and paste until we have five boxes. So, something like this.

3. Add text boxes to fill in the boxes with information. Make sure to click no outline and no shape fill under the format so that it will remain invisible. But, when you hover it, you can still see the shapes. Like this.

4. Use your own creativity to fill the entire boxes, but not too crowded! Maybe, something like this?

5. Add a background. Click insert, then pictures. Then, choose your own background! After that, right-click on the picture, hover to apply to background, click fill. Tadaaa!

6. As for the covers, use the same background. Just start with the empty page with the same background. Then, decorate it yourself. Play with some transparency level. colour and there you go! Anyway, don't forget to click save! Good luck!   :)

Here's the template for the above tutorials.

P/s : I would like to share my first work, and I only used Microsoft Publisher. ^^

That's all! For any inquiries, kindly comment on this post or email me at hidayu1409@gmail.com. Thanks for reading! :)

LA 23 : Pop Up House

Skill : Language Arts
Year : 2
Topic : The Old House

Assalamualaikum and Hi!

Today, we did something new to me and to my pupils too. It is a pop up house! This lesson catered the content in page 72 related to a song. I seriously found that the song is very mysterious and fun too! We managed to sing the song and of course, introducing the vocabulary (the animals) is an essential thing to do.

Initially, I was planning to do a 3D house but I am pretty lazy and tired to prepare about 100 worksheets for the pupils (3 clasess, so you know what I meant). Thus, I simply asked them to bring their own materials to make this. Let's check it out!

My sample (focus on the lizard!)

Superminds, Page 72. Audio : CD 2, Track 40.

As you can see from the Superminds' book above, those are the contents in the house that the pupils needed to draw. I haven't finish mine since I was too busy with so many things this week. But, I have prepared the pictures of animals that needed to be included in my pop up house. Don't worry, I will definitely upload them here. Wait and keep reading!

WHAT DO YOU NEED?
  • Drawing papers (probably 165gsm onwards better).
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Colours
  • Animal characters (DOWNLOAD HERE)
  • Creativity

HOW TO DO IT?

1. Firstly, sketch any design of a house that you would like to do. I did something a bit different than my pupils'. They did a simple version of roof while mine was a bit weird. Haha!

2. Fold the side of the drawing paper into two. Draw the shape of the house (one side only). Make sure to cut the straight line part and do not cut the dashed part. I did not take any picture of the drawings with the dashed and straight line. Sorry for that. But, you can check out the next step k.

3. Then, start drawing your sketch into the drawing paper. Something like this.

4. Colour them according to your own creativity. Then, paste the given animal characters to match with the song that you have learnt. That's why you can see why the lizard is there in the bedroom! (refer to my sample)

5. How to pop them up? Simply follow the steps of FOLD and PUSH FORWARD.

There you are, a pop up house! :) I am truly sorry that I did not provide a complete sample with the animal characters on it. But, I hope you can relate it by looking at the Superminds' book page 72 that I have provided above.

Thanks for reading! ^^
