Year : 3
Lesson : Language Games
Hello! I'm back with new activity to enhance my students' vocabulary and allowed their brains to think outside the boxes. So, since they have finished their syllabus, I decided to conduct interesting activity that will help them to enjoy learning English more.
Basically, 'Words in A Word' game is related to the ability of the students to create as many words a as possible during the given time. Initially, I conducted this activity individually the day before, and I could see that few of the students were struggling to come out with other related words. Thus, I decided to continue this game in pairs and groups of three the next day. As a result, they managed to come out with even better words! At the same time, they have learnt how to use the dictionary wisely. For those who did not have dictionaries, they can also use their textbooks to find the proper words related to the word given.
For example, I gave the words 'BASKETBALL'. They have to create 3 letters words, 4 letters words, 5 letters word and 6 letters words as many as possible based on the word 'BASKETBALL'. To make it even competitive, I've prepared a reward for a student who came up with the most correct words, and they did very well. I did asked some of them about this game and they said they loved it since it challenged them to think more and more within the time limit.
This game showed that words have no limit. They are free to create new words but they need to ensure that the words created exist in the dictionaries. That's it!
P/s : In case you are wondering, I let my Year 3 students to write the days and dates by themselves everyday since we have learnt about it. So, they need to know how to write it properly. Thanks for reading! :)
